It’s been many, many years since the Pelican Yacht Club has seen improvements in our facilities like we have seen in the past year. Our Phase 1 Building & Grounds Improvement Project (BGIP) is nearing completion. Without the support of our Membership, we would not have been able to:

• replace almost 200 feet of our seawall

• address and correct our seriously leaky roof

• replace our rotten siding on the Clubhouse

• upgrade our windows and doors, and

• replace our walk-in coolers.

We anticipated finding “surprises” during this renovation project, but the number of surprises has been in the double digits. Each one of these surprises could have derailed our spirits and our budget, but our Rear Commodore John Jacobs kept this train on the tracks! We are approaching the finish line and many of our Members have expressed their appreciation and amazement about what has been accomplished, and have inquired about the budget given the magnitude of the project and the surprises. The good news is that we remain on budget for our original deliverables! However, due to our many surprises, we will not have the funds for the crowning touches and the extras that we hoped for, such as:

• painting the remaining of buildings to match the Clubhouse

• installing railing on the front of the Clubhouse

• landscaping

• replacing our sign to coordinate with our updated look

• incorporating an office inside the kitchen for our amazing Chef
